SSL Certificate Monitoring using Domain Punch Pro and Watch My Domains

The current versions of Watch My Domains ISP and Domain Punch Pro support monitoring SSL certificates associated with domains. Please see the screen-shots below.

Enabling SSL Check

Since most domains in your domain name portfolio may not have SSL certificates, the SSL check has to be enabled for each domain (or enabled globally for all domains). You can do this from the “details” tab in the lower panel.

Sub domains for SSL check

You can specify a default sub-domain for SSL checking (see screenshot above). If the subdomain is not specified the SSL check will be done after appending “www.” in front of the domain name. To check SSL for only the domain name (no www) specify the subdomain as “-” (without the quotes).

Enable SSL checking for all domains

To enable SSL checking for all domains, check the “Always do SSL check” box in the “App Settings” dialog.

Changed CA Domain Settings in Domain Punch and Watch My Domains

Users of our domain name portfolio management software products will need to make a small change in their configurations for .CA domains. This is because of some changes in the whois data format.

Right click on any .CA domain and select “Whois Setup > Basic Whois Settings”.

Type in the following for “Expiry Date Token”

Expiry date:

Change the “search token” to

Domain status:         available

Remember to leave the spaces in the middle of the token exactly as it is!

Please see the screen shot below.  Click OK.  Redo the lookups.

Date Display Format in Domain Name Software Tools

Date Display Format

The format in which various domain name management software tools display the dates is set using the Windows Control Panel.  Don’t confuse this with the date format in the “Whois Configuration” dialog.

It is always safer to set a display format that shows the month as name and not as a number.  Otherwise there is always a possibility confusion between dates and months. Please see the screen shot below.

Date Format Settings from Windows Control Panel

Date Extraction Format for Whois

The data format in “whois setup” specifies the format used by the registry and registrar to specify the dates. This is required so that the software can extract the dates properly.
