Make use of the “fresher related” search suggestions from Google

Recently Google improved their algorithms to display related searches based on the current "hot" topics. For example, if you search for "soccer" you will find the ongoing "euro soccer 2008" as a related search suggestion.

You can read more about it at the Official Google Blog.

Keep a watch on Google to find related fresher search terms for keywords you have an interest in. Use it to create additional content that will be useful to your customers and site visitors. This is a dynamic feature, meaning the related searches displayed by Google will change over time. So you will probably need to check the keywords once every week to find new "hot" topics and ideas.

Starting your first website? Five ways to get that initial traffic!

"My website is on-line now. I don’t see any visitors. Submitted the site URL to some search engines, but nothing seems to happen! How am I ever going to get that traffic you talk about?"

The above is a slightly edited version of an email we got.

Yes, getting that initial traffic is not very difficult if you already have another established website. But what if it is your very first website?

Getting Initial Traffic

Here are five different ways to get started!

Before doing any of these make sure that your site does have something substantial to offer. Otherwise the site will just fall back into obscurity after an initial burst of traffic. What you need, is to turn your first set of visitors into evangelists who will talk about your site on forums and their blogs. If your site is just another "Me Too" site, this is not going to happen. There has to be some thing unique or different about your site. A good "Wow!" factor will also help!

1. Get Links

Get one or more  established websites to link to you. If it is a well known site and you get featured at a reasonably prominent location on that site, you will get a quick flood of traffic. A blogger friend or some one with an established website can help you. If you don’t have any one to help you, you will need to be a little creative. If your site is software related you can submit your product to one of the known software download sites.

2. Get Help from an On-line Community

Get involved at a related on line forum and talk about your interests. Make sure to follow the forum rules. Most forums will allow you to include a signature at the end of your post. Ensure that you also contribute something of value to the forum.

3. Write Articles

There are sites that accept articles for publication. Write a series of good articles about your field and submit it to such sites. Include information about your site at the end. You can even get articles written for you for a fee. Make sure that your articles are original and provide valuable information.

4. Issue a Press Release

This is probably the best method to get your site noticed. Create a good newsworthy press release and submit it using one of the on-line PR sites sites like prweb.com or PRNewsware.com. Again, you can get experts to create a good press release for a fee.

5. Do PPC Advertisements

Create PPC advertisements and use Google Adwords or Yahoo advertising network. Please see the posts on Pay per Click strategy.

Get Ready For “Watch My Domains ISP – v3″ and Other Domain Name Management Tools

We are getting ready to release the latest versions of our domain name management products. There have been numerous emails about the new features.  So, here is some advance information about some of the new features in Watch My Domains ISP, our premium software for corporate and high-end business users.

Support for Unicode

Watch My Domains ISP v3 and the new versions of our other products like Domain Punch Pro v2 are Unicode enabled. This means that it can display data in other languages like Chinese, Hindi, etc. For example, the whois server for CN domains returns some information in Chinese. The software will display this information properly if your operating system  has the required code pages installed.

Unicode Support in Domain Name Management Software

For home page / http lookups, the software supports a variety of charsets including UTF-8, GB2312 (Chinese), various Indian languages and variants of ISO-8859.

Printing support

You can now print the domain data table from within the software itself. Print preview is also enabled.

Check MX records.

This has been a long time request from our customers. The software now supports checking the MX records of your domains.

An Integrated Domain Calendar

This is a cool new feature (available only in Watch My Domains ISP v3) that will allow you to see the domains expiring on any month within an on-screen calendar.

New interface and a fully reworked code base

We have completely over-hauled our code base and obtained substantial speed improvements and ability to handle many more domains (especially in Domain punch Professional). The sorting is now very fast. The database version (Watch My Domains ISP) no longer requires DAO. Instead it uses the ODBC drivers that are available by default on Windows systems. See a screen-shot of the new Interafce below.

Watch My Domains ISP v3, New Interface

Enhanced SQL support

We have added a number of enhancements to SQL query handling in Watch My Domains ISP. You can even create wild card queries that prompt for user input at the time of execution.

A new "detail view" with support for manual editing

You can manually edit almost any domain related record from within the new "Details view". It also provides a quick overview of the entire data for any domain name.

Domain Punch professional – Searching Within Whois Record Data

Here is an under-utilized feature available within most of our domain name products (Domain Punch Professional and Watch my Domains ISP).

You can find it under the Edit menu and is labeled Whois output search settings.

Searching Whois Records

Simply type in any text string and the software will display all the domains that have the text within the whois data records. Here are two typical applications…

  • Quickly find domains that have a specific registry status. The software will automatically extract and display only the first displayed status text. So this option will help you find additional status settings.
  • Find domains that use a specific administrative email contact or a specific phone number. It is important to keep the domain whois records up-to-date. If your contact information has changed, you can use this feature to find domain records that need to be updated.
