How To Attach Custom Data (Notes) in Bulk To Domains in Domain Punch Pro


Domain Punch Pro and Watch My Domains ISP / Pro support attaching additional custom data to each domain in the list. You can do this by right clicking any domain in the list and selecting “Extra Columns > Add Domain Notes A…” etc. from the menu.

There are situations when you want to add these notes / extra information in bulk. This can be easily done by creating a simple comma seperated text file and then importing the contents into Domain Punch Pro.

The first row in the CSV file should contain the header names. If the notes contain a “,” wrap the entire entry within quotes. You can see a sample CSV file below. Please note that the CSV file need not contain all four “notes” columns.

domain,notes-a,notes-b,notes-d
domainpunch.com,Invoiced,”Hello, There”,ZZZZZ
softnik.com,AA,BB,DD

To import this CSV file, right click within the domain list (in Domain Punch Pro or Watch My Domains) and select “Extra Columns > Import Domain Notes…”. Select the just created CSV file when prompted.

You can do the reverse also…

First configure the display columns to display the domain name and the four domain notes using the right click > “Setup display” menu. Then use the “Export > All To CSV File”.

Is Microsoft’s Bing Any Good? Want To Compare Bing, Yahoo and Google Search Results Side By Side?


Microsoft launched their new search engine, Bing, a few days earlier than expected. Some people love it, some say it is as bad as Live, some say it's results are very similar to Google's.  Anyway we have updated SEO Lab Gold and Pro because of the change from Live to Bing.

You can compare the search engine results from Google, Yahoo and Bing side by side using a unique 3 column window in SEO Lab Professional or Gold.

Bing has better support for geo-targeting compared to the older Microsoft Live.

Domain Name Software Products Updated


We have updated the following domain name portfolio management software products.

The new additions include ability to disable alerts for specific domains, built in support for managing ".TEL" domains (previously supported through a simple manual configuration change), protection from erroneously hiding the domain table, improved duplicate removal for domain filter (keywords tab), enabled display of pending delete domains, etc.

Please note that some of above options will not be present in Watch My Domains Pro.

A Blog Broadcast Goof Up and an Apology!


I just received a set of 5 emails alerting me to new posts in this Blog. The only problem was that there were no immediate recent posts. The alerts were all generated for older posts (as old as December 2008).

This is an apology to all those who received 5-6 emails in quick succession. We use Aweber to sent out an email alert whenever there is a new blog post. It appears that some glitch at Aweber triggered a set of emails!

I have removed the automatic email option in the Aweber setup. This will hopefully prevent further glitches.

Google Keyword Tool Updated


Good Keywords v3 Beta

Google has updated the ad-words keyword tool. The "approximate avg. search volume" has now become "Global Monthly Search Volume". This means that the search volumes are based on all countries and languages and not targeted to a specific country or language. You can still see the "local search volume" (based on the targeted country  and language) for the previous month.

This update seems to be a part of the new Adword interface rollout that happened today (this was in beta for a while). The new interface appears to require Firefox, Google Chrome or IE7 (it has problems with IE8!).

We have updated Good Keywords v3 and SEO Lab to account for the change in the column names in the CSV files exported from the Google keyword Tool.

We have also improved the Site Analyzer Tool in SEO Lab.

Get more out of Good Keywords v3 and SEO Lab Pro


Open the Google Keyword Tool Within the Software Interface

Good Keywords v3 (and SEO Lab Pro) normally opens the Google Keyword Suggestion Tool in the default browser. You can make the software open it within itself. To do this, simply click on the round "Sn" icon on the top left of the software window and select the "Application Settings" menu option. Then un-check the "Open Google KWT in Browser" box.

If you have a Google Accountyou may want to login. This will allow you to use the Google Keyword Tool without the captcha security prompt.

Generate Misspelled Keywords

The KW Manager (KW Builder in SEO Lab)  can be used to generate misspelled keywords. To do this, select one of the "My Keyword Lists" within the KW Manager / Builder and enter the keyword phrases into it. Now select the "Misspell" ribbon button in the "Multiply keywords" group. This will generate misspelled combinations for all the keywords in the list.

Generate Large Number of Keyword Phrases by Combining Keywords

You can create a large number of keyword phrases by re-combining the words in existing phrases. Use the "Recombine" button in the "Multiply keywords" group in KW Manager / Builder.

For example, if you have a keyword phrase like

wedding reception decoration ideas

The re-combine option will create

wedding reception decoration ideas
wedding reception ideas decoration
wedding decoration reception ideas
wedding decoration ideas reception
wedding ideas reception decoration
wedding ideas decoration reception
reception wedding decoration ideas
reception wedding ideas decoration
reception decoration wedding ideas
reception decoration ideas wedding

and so on…

Now delete the phrases that make absolutely no sense but keep the good ones.

.tel Domains Become Available To General Public


The .tel domains were initially offered to trademark holders in early December 2008. It is available for public registration from March 24, 2009.  The cost of yearly registration varies between $12 and $35 (depending on the registrar).

Brand and Domain Names

If you are using any of our Domain Name Management Software you can make a simple configuration change to the software and make it support .tel domains. Please see configuring .tel support in Domain Punch Pro, Watch My Domains Pro/ISP or Domain Name Analyzer (free and Pro versions).

A Warning About Domain Name Availability Checks

Avoid searching for domain name availability at the registrar websites. There have been reports of certain registrars and websites monitoring searches and then blocking the domain name. It is safer to use a software like Domain Name Analyzer (free or the Pro version) because it has an option to check for availability with minimum number of lookups and also use the registry whois servers. Since the software is run directly from your own computer, nothing is monitored or logged.

Go to the registrar website after you have decided the name to register and do the registration immediately. It is better to keep a credit balance in your domain name registrar account. This will ensure that your domain name registration is successful on the first try.
